Lord Shri Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Ji, also known as Sri Krishna Chaitanya MahaPrabhu and Lord Gauranga, was one the great masters, teachers, Saints, Sannyasi and Bengali spiritual Guru in the Indian peninsula. Chaitanya MahaPrabhu lived from 1486 to 1534 AD, i.e., for about 48 years.

The 21st of March in 2019 marks the birth anniversary of Chaitanya MahaPrabhu. The date may vary every Gregorian calendar year. The Gregorian date of Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Jayanti every year is determined according to the Hindu calendar. Chaitanya MahaPrabhu was born in the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna, in the full moon, Purnima. The occasion is called Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Jayanti and also Gaura purnima.

Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Jayanti is also called Gaura purnima, as it is named after the followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Gaudiya refers to the people of the region Gaudiya who worship Lord Vishnu, a practice that is called Vaishnavism. Lord Krishna, avatar of Lord Vishnu is also worshiped. Gaudiya in the modern-day refers to the Bengal and Bangladesh region. Chaitanya MahaPrabhu is regarded as the founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition.

Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Ji’s maternal grandfather, i.e., his mother’s father, Pandit Shri Nilambara was believed to be a renowned astrologer. His grandfather had also predicted about his noble life future.

Chaitanya MahaPrabhu is believed to have traveled extensively across India. He had mastered the Sanskrit language, knew the Vedic scriptures etc. He used to also preach worship of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna, spread the Hare Krishna movement, and was Lord Krishna devotee.

Many natives, especially in Bengal and Odisha, but mainly Gaudiya Vaishnavism followers, mark the celebration of Chaitanya MahaPrabhu Jayanti. Events or prayers are organized such as at the Gaudiya Mission and ISKCON. Many regarded Chaitanya MahaPrabhu as an avatar of Lord Krishna.

                        Om Krishnaya Namah

                        ॐ कृष्णाय नमः
