Vijaya Ekadashi is an important holy event. The Sanskrit feminine name or word Vijaya means victory. Vijay is a common male name that also means victory. Ekadashi is the 11th day, Tithi, in each of the 2 lunar-moon phases in a lunar calendar month, i.e., Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. There are about two Ekadashis in a Gregorian month, therefore, about 24 Ekadashis in a Gregorian year.
Each Ekadashi may have a specific ritual, significance or importance. But devotees observe Vrat, fast, on Ekadashis, and generally, Lord Vishnu is worshipped. Vijaya Ekadashi falls in the Hindu month of Falguna, in the Krishna Paksha phase of the moon. Falguna relates to the Gregorian February-March period. Krishna Paksha is the waning-decreasing moon phase in the fortnight. In 2019, it is falling on the Gregorian date on the 2nd of March, Saturday.
