This 26th of January 2019 will mark the celebration of the entry of the 70th Republic Day of India. India celebrates the Republic Day every year to honor the Constitution of India. The Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, after the independence on the 15th of August 1947.
It is a national and gazetted public holiday in India. All offices, Government, private, institutions, schools etc remain closed. The Republic Day is one of the three main top national holidays, along with the Independence Day of 15th August and Gandhi Jayanti – 2nd October.
The Constitution of India is one the largest, most extensive, in detail in the world. Honorable Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is the author behind the formation, drafting, and frame of the Constitution of India. It mentions and includes the laws, code of conduct etc in India.
Almost every year since 1950, international dignitary level Chief Guests have been invited. These are normally political or State Heads, Presidents or Prime Ministers of countries. 2018 marked the highest number of international dignitaries as Chief Guests at a time on a Republic Day. This year, in 2019, the current President of South Africa, Honorable Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa is the Chief Guest. India and South Africa enjoy a historical friendship, cordial relations, and alliance.
The President of India hoists the flag on the Republic Day. The President, along with the Chief guests, Diplomats and other dignitaries commemorate-salute and witness the parade from the dais on Rajpath in New Delhi. The duration is about 3 hours, from about 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The parade includes military, IAF, Naval, BSF personnel on camels, CRPF, ITBP etc march past, defense equipment show, all Indian State-wise cultural show - some moving on wheels, skills’ display, music bands, historical shows, cultural dances, school children march past, NCC, a few Government Departments etc. There is also Awards presentation especially for gallantry, bravery, national sacrifice etc.
Many natives attend the Republic Day parades; many institutes independently organize Republic Day programs, visit historical places. Many natives watch the Republic day parade, speech, and show live on TV.
Many companies, especially private come out with Republic Day offers, discounts and schemes on their products and services. This is in the markets and also online, such as, through the e-commerce platform. This not only honors the Republic Day celebration, but many consumers wait for this period.
We wish all a very Happy Republic Day. We salute Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Ji and every person in the contribution and making of the Constitution of India. We wish for peace, prosperity, safety, security of all the natives.
