Bagalamukhi Jayanti is a holy Hindu annual event. Bagalamukhi also spelled as Baglamukhi, or at times simply called Bagala is one of the Goddesses, popularly known as Devi Bagalamukhi and also Pitambara. Sanskrit word PIta or Peetah means yellow. Many pictures of Devi Bagalamukhi depict her in yellow clothing or with yellow flowers.
Devi Bagalamukhi is part of and is one of the 10 aspects of MahaVidya; Devi Bagalamukhi is the 8th MahaVidya of the 10. These 10 aspects are also referred to as Tantrik deities. In MahaVidya, Maha means great, and Vidya means wisdom, knowledge, or science. Tantrik means a set of the tradition of super knowledge system like magical, mystical, scientific or possessing power. However, some Tantrik is often part of specific rituals and remedies to certain problems.
The date of Bagalamukhi can vary in every Gregorian year. The date is determined according to the Hindu lunar calendar. The date of Bagalamukhi Jayanti falls on the Ashtami of the Shukla Paksha moon phase, in the Hindu calendar month of Vaisakh. Ashtami means the 8th lunar day. Shukla Paksha is a waxing-rising moon phase in the fortnight of the month. In 2019, Bagalamukhi Jayanti is falling on the 12th of May, on Sunday.
Many devotees of Devi Bagalamukhi observe a fast, Vrat, on the occasion of Bagalamukhi Jayanti. They pray and worship Maa Bagalamukhi in her honor and to seek her blessings. There are large scale special prayers held called Yajyas in many temples or at religious functions-events. Many observe Jagran. Jagran is the sacred practice of staying awake at night and praying in worship to deity. Many devotees wear yellow colored clothes and offer yellow flowers and coconuts on Bagalamukhi Jayanti.

It is also for the removal of any problems especially with the opponents-enemies, and to kill any negative energy; and also to bring auspiciousness in prosperity, protection against diseases, to kill fear, protection to child, to prevent from Buri Nazar – the evil eye, for success in examinations, to get energy, long life etc.
