Swami Dayanand was a renowned Sanyasi, Guru, socio-reformist, Vedic scholar, spiritual, religious and social leader. He is the founder of the famous Arya Samaj that is also referred to as the revolutionary movement in history. Swami Dayanand is also regarded as one of the Makers of Modern India.
Swami Dayanand was born on the Gregorian date the 12th of February 1824, in Gujarat, India. He lived for 59 years. According to the Indian lunar calendar system, Swami Dayanand was born on the 10th day, in the Krishna Paksha phase of the month, in the Hindu calendar month of Falguna. Krishna Paksha is the waning-decreasing phase of the moon, in the month’s fortnight; therefore, every year, the date of Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti can vary. Swami Dayanand died due it ill health on the 30th of October 1883 in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India.

Arya Samaj, literally meaning Noble Society, was founded in 1875 by Swami Dayanand himself, in Bombay now Mumbai. Arya Samaj centers are present pan India, and also internationally in several countries like Singapore, Canada etc.
Swami Dayanand and the Arya Samaj following the principles of Swami Dayanand preach against animal sacrifice, child marriages, are against non-vegetarian, support women rights, work against and discourage superstitions, do not believe in the worshipping of idols, promote universalism, upholding the truth, Karma etc. They have a belief in the ancient Vedas. Arya Samaj is also known for promoting inter-caste and inter-religion marriages.
One of the staunch followers of the Arya Samaj is the 95-year-old Mahashay Dharampal Ji, founder-owner of the famous MDH Masala-spices.
