What does Vinayak Chaturthi mean?

Vinayak Chaturthi is an important once a month Hindu event. Vinayak Chaturthi is observed mostly by the devotees of Lord Ganesha, especially in Maharashtra.  Among the numerous names of Lord Ganesha, Vinayak is another name for Lord Ganesha. Many of the devotees even observe a fast, Vrat, in dedication to Lord Ganesha once every month on Vinayak Chaturthi. The Sanskrit word ‘Catur’ means four, and Caturtha’ means 4th.

When does Vinayak Chaturthi fall?

There are about 12 Chaturthi in a year; however, the main mega Chaturthi event is called Ganesha Chaturthi. Ganesha Chaturthi falls in the Gregorian end in October or September period.  The date of Vinayak Chaturthi is determined according to the Hindu lunar calendar. Vinayak Chaturthi falls on the 4th day of the Shukla Paksha - the waxing-rising phase of the moon, in the lunar monthly fortnight. In Gregorian July, Vinayak Chaturthi is falling on the 6th, Saturday.

A brief about Lord Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Kartikeya, the God of War, is the brother of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is regarded as the God of the remover of obstacles, and to bring wisdom, knowledge, and intelligence. Lord Ganesha is perhaps the most well-known Hindu deity globally. Lord Ganesha is revered in Jainism and Buddhism. Kangi-ten is a form of the elephant-headed Lord Ganesha in Japan and in Japanese Buddhism.    

The basic significance of Lord Ganesha in Astrology

Lord Ganesha has an important role or part in Astrology. Panna, the green emerald is the gemstone for the princely planet Mercury. Mercury rules the signs Gemini and Virgo and birth chart Houses 3rd and the 6th.
