The Hindi number ‘Sade Saat’ means 7½, i.e., seven and a half, where the number Saat means 7 and Sade means half. Shani means the planet Saturn. Shani Sade-Sati or sometimes called just Sade Sati in Astrology means a particular effect of the planet Saturn for a period of continuous 7½ years period in a person’s life.
Sade Sati happens when Saturn comes one-by-one in order in the three or passes through these three - 12th, 1st, and the 2nd birth chart Houses from the natal birth moon. So, in the total of these 3 Houses x 2.5 years Saturn’s time spent in each House, is a total of 7.5 years. Saturn stays 2.5 years in each sign or House, therefore one cycle is after 2.5 years x 12 signs-Houses = 30 years.
Normally, a person experiences the Sade Satis 2 or 3 times in a normal course of life, depending on a native’s length of years of life, life expectancy. These are normally one before the age of 28 years, 2nd around mid 50ies, and the 3rd around before 84 years.
Generally, Sade Sade is said to be associated with hurdles and some difficulties in life in this 7½ year Saturn’s presence period; here is an example of the Sade Sati effect: The 12th House is related to endings, disorder, expenses, losses, spending, wasting, anxiety, isolated places, prison etc but also international travel, etc. From this Saturn’s position-placement when present in the 12th House, Saturn aspects the 2nd, 5th, and the 8th Houses, so from the 12th House, 2nd is the 3rd aspect, 5th is the 7th, and 8th is the 10th aspect. So there may be an impact in these Houses, e.g., 2nd House – voice problem, 5th is Children, like there maybe delay, anxiety etc.
Saturn is linked with words like strictness, teacher, hard work, labor, limitations, discipline, fear, challenges, hardship etc, but also, success, own boss, perseverance, prosperity, growth, easy success, wisdom, Lord of Karma etc. However, multiple other astrological aspects and factors have to be taken into account to determine any effect or outcome, whether neutral or positive.
Some of the remedies for Sade-Sati are like to offer milk to Lord Shiva preferably in a Shani Temple, offering food or making a donation to the poor especially on Saturdays etc. Saturdays are dedicated to the Saturn. These types of remedies are considered to be auspicious to balance the Sade-Sati effect. However, as each birth chart, Janam Kundli, of a native is unique and different, taking advice from an Astrologer or Priest is recommended.
