For many years, when the successor was not born in the Suryavamsha, King Dasharatha, on the suggestion of the great sage Vasishtha, resolved to perform Putrakameshti Yajna. After the yajna, all three queens received kheer in the form of prasad, out of which an eagle snatched away the bowl of prasadam from mother Sumitra's part and put this vessel in the lap of mother Anjani.
Mother Anjani was engrossed in the penance of Lord Shiva to get a son, then her attention turned towards this vessel and the mother accepted it as a blessing of Lord Shiva.
